GM, LexisNexis Sued for Sharing Drivers’ Data With Insurers

General Motors LLC, OnStar LLC, and LexisNexis Risk Solutions Inc. collected and shared data about the driving behavior of consumers with insurance companies without their consent in violation of federal and state privacy laws, a proposed federal class action said Friday.

The lawsuit comes two days after GM announced it was ending its OnStar Smart Driver program after customers complained it violated their privacy.

OnStar had cut deals with LexisNexis and Verisk to share personal driving data as part of the program, which they then shared with insurers.
