Cyber Label Scheme for Smart Devices Advances With FCC Proposal

The Federal Communications Commission is seeking public feedback on how to implement a voluntary cybersecurity labeling scheme meant to help consumers choose internet-connected devices that are less vulnerable to hacking.

The agency issued a rulemaking proposal Thursday that asks for input on topics including who should oversee and manage the labeling scheme and which products it should cover. Devices ranging from smart baby monitors to security cameras and their related apps are among those under consideration.
