A new voluntary cybersecurity labeling scheme is aimed at helping Americans purchase internet-connected devices such as smart television sets, appliances, and thermostats that are safer and less vulnerable to hacking.
Consumers would see a shield logo on products meeting established cybersecurity standards as part of the new “US Cyber Trust Mark” program the Federal Communications Commission proposed Tuesday. The agency plans to seek public feedback before launching the program in late 2024, according to a FCC press release.
Businesses would have to submit products for certification to bear the label.
