Biometric, Consent Updates to FTC Kids Online Rules Urged by AGs

A bipartisan coalition of state attorneys general submitted comments to the Federal Trade Commission on Tuesday urging the agency to update its rules guarding children’s privacy online.

Recommendations include the FTC expanding the definition of “personal information” to cover biometrics, such as a child’s voice data and avatars generated from a child’s likeness. The attorneys general from 43 US states and territories also urged the agency to change consent requirements for contextual advertising.
