Trump Budget Would Cut Health Agencies’ Funds, Boost CBD Focus

Agencies tackling the coronavirus outbreak would see major funding cuts under the Trump administration’s fiscal 2021 budget request.

Sizable Trimmings: The proposal amounts to a 10% cut for the CDC, a 3.7% cut for the NIH, and a 7% cut for the National Science Foundation, a senior adviser to health research advocacy group Research!America says.

Cannabis Concerns: Meanwhile, the administration is asking for $5 million for the FDA to conduct cannabis research and crack down on illegally marketed CBD products. The proposal also seeks to shift regulation of e-cigarettes and tobacco products away from the FDA.
