Cannabis, CBD Are New Stars of Trump’s FDA Budget Request

Cannabis regulation is a new top-line priority for the FDA as Congress demands better research and the cannabis-derived supplement CBD grows in popularity, according to President Donald Trump’s budget proposal released Monday.

The administration’s budget request carves out $5 million for the Food and Drug Administration to conduct research and inspections, and crack down on illegally marketed cannabis products. Cannabis research wasn’t mentioned in the agency’s budget request from 2020 or 2019.
