Hochul, Trump Poised for Clash on AI Regulation: New York Brief

Gov. Kathy Hochul signed legislation that would make New York the first state forcing advertisers to disclose the use of AI to replace human actors, hours before President Donald Trump issued an order seeking to limit state-level AI regulation.

The New York law signed Thursday fines violators up to $5,000 for failing to reveal when an apparent person in an ad is an AI-generated avatar. Backed by SAG-AFTRA and opposed by Amazon and Microsoft, the measure takes effect in 180 days.
