WorkEasy Can’t Shake Biometric Privacy Suit From Client’s Worker

WorkEasy Software LLC failed to get two Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act claims dismissed from a class action over its alleged collection of biometric data.

Class representative Maria Tapia-Rendon alleged that WorkEasy clocks “generate templates associated with each fingerprint,"which are used to clock in and out. She sued both WorkEasy and her workplace, United Tape & Finishing, in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

Those templates are biometric information under BIPA, Judge Matthew F. Kennelly ruled. And both sides presented sufficient information to raise a genuine dispute over whether WorkEasy controls the servers the data goes ...
