An employee of United Tape & Finishing Co. won class certification in a lawsuit alleging her employer and EasyWorkforce Software LLP collected workers’ biometric information without their consent in violation of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act.
Maria Tapia-Rendon alleged that EWF, a seller of biometric timeclocks and enrollment devices, collected her fingerprints while she worked for United Tape without informing her of the data collection, as required under BIPA, and without indicating the purpose of the collection or how long her data would be retained.
