Uber, Postmates Must Reargue California Gig Worker Law Validity

The full Ninth Circuit will rehear arguments on whether Uber Technologies Inc. and Postmates Inc. can proceed with their lawsuit challenging a California law that makes it harder for gig companies to classify workers as independent contractors.

The US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit on Monday granted California’s motion for en banc review of a panel’s March ruling that the state was targeting specific companies “like a heat-seeking missile” as Uber’s counsel told the court in adopting the law known as AB 5.
