Federal appeals court judges clashed Friday in oral arguments over how to interpret presidential executive orders rescinding funds from immigrant sanctuary jurisdictions that were successfully blocked in a lawsuit brought by San Francisco.
A three-judge panel for the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit appeared at times to fall along ideological lines in interpreting the case, which is almost identical to San Francisco’s successful 2017 lawsuit challenging sanctuary defunding during the first Trump administration.
