San Diego State Professor Loses Speech Claim Over Gender Slurs

A San Diego State University professor who was suspended without pay after using gender slurs during a philosophy class lacks a First Amendment retaliation claim against the provost who benched him, a federal court ruled.

J. Angelo Corlett failed to fix the shortcomings of his prior complaint in the lawsuit against Provost William Tong and Dean Monica Casper, which were identified in a Sept. 20 decision that partly dismissed the case with leave to file an amended complaint, the US District Court for the Southern District of California said.
