President’s House ‘Slavery’ Panels Must Be Protected, Judge Says

The US government must continue to securely store all display panels referencing slavery that the National Parks Service removed from the President’s House in Philadelphia, a federal judge said.

Further inspection is required to determine the extent of damage to certain panels, Judge Cynthia M. Rufe of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania said in a Monday inspection report. Rufe, who is presiding over Philadelphia’s legal challenge to the panels’ removal, conducted a visual inspection of 34 glass and metal panels, which are currently at the National Constitutional Center, the report said.
