Pasadena Renters to Get Inspections After Eaton Fire Toxins Suit

Tenants displaced by the Eaton Fire reached a settlement with the city of Pasadena to fast-track inspections and cleaning for rental units that filled with toxic ash and smoke during last year’s blaze.

The agreement follows a pair of lawsuits filed by Pasadena and Altadena tenants’ unions in May, alleging Los Angeles county and Pasadena officials refused to inspect homes contaminated by wildfire smoke, or to require landlords to clean out fire-related toxins.

Without proper remediation, renters are forced to move back into contaminated units or abandon them altogether, the California Superior Court, Los Angeles County lawsuits alleged. A year ...
