L.A. Failed to Inspect Homes After Eaton Fire, Suit Says

Los Angeles officials “have consistently refused” since the Eaton Fire to inspect homes for toxic smoke, ash, or soot, tenants displaced by the fires said in a pair of lawsuits.

County officials and the City of Pasadena are also failing to require property owners to remove fire-related toxins to make homes habitable, according to the complaints filed Wednesday in California Superior Court, Los Angeles County. Instead, they’ve encouraged residents to take civil action against their landlords, who are requiring tenants to pay for private inspections before starting needed remediation, the complaints say.
