OpenAI User Drops Privacy Class Action Over Mixpanel Data Breach

A California resident’s lawsuit against OpenAI Inc. and Mixpanel Inc. alleging the two companies failed to sufficiently protect user data from hackers was voluntarily dismissed from federal court.

Mixpanel, a data analytics provider OpenAI used, suffered a cybersecurity incident, leading Jon Woodard to file a proposed class action in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. The data breach involved analytics data for users of OpenAI’s API product. It also impacted some ChatGPT users who submitted help center tickets or were logged into the API service.
