Nevada Wage Laws Differ From Federal Compensable Work Exceptions

The Nevada legislature didn’t intend to incorporate the federal Portal-to-Portal Act exceptions for compensable work into the state’s wage and hour laws, Nevada’s high court said Thursday.

The federal statute provides a “catchall type of exception” for certain activities that can’t be compensated, whereas Nevada’s laws contemplate “only narrow exceptions to compensable work activity,” Justice Ron D. Parraguirre wrote for the Nevada Supreme Court.
