Mitsubishi, Mazda Hit With Patent Suits Over Headlights, Apps

Mitsubishi and Mazda are joining other large automakers as litigation targets with claims that their vehicles infringe patents for bright headlight technology, remote locking systems, and other car features.

Longhorn Automotive Group LLC filed complaints Tuesday against Mitsubishi Motor Corp. and Mazda Motor Corp. in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Texas-based Longhorn claims both automakers offer headlights, remote safety features, automated driver assistance, and fuel-efficienct engine technology that infringe Longhorn’s patents.

Longhorn already has suits pending in the Eastern District of Texas against Volvo Car Corp. and Nissan Motor Co. over the same patents.
