Maryland Immigration Detention Center Construction Halted

A Maryland federal court temporarily blocked the Trump administration from advancing its plan to develop an immigration detention facility in Williamsport, Md.

The US government is temporarily restrained for 14 days from proceeding with renovation or construction at the Williamsport Warehouse, Judge Brian A. Hurson of the US District Court for the Maryland District Court said in a Wednesday order.

Maryland, which sued Feb. 23, showed a likelihood of success in demonstrating the government failed to comply with the National Environmental Policy Act, which requires agencies to consider how major federal actions will affect the environment, the court said ...
