LinkedIn Beats State-Law Claim in Suit Over Collecting DMV Data

LinkedIn Corp. defeated the sole remaining claim of a lawsuit alleging it intercepted the personal information of its users who visited the website of the California Department of Motor Vehicles in violation of federal and state privacy laws.

Judge P. Casey Pitts of the US District Court for the Northern District of California granted LinkedIn’s motion to to dismiss the plaintiffs’ claim under the California Invasion of Privacy Act for lack of federal jurisdiction on Jan. 17.
