Kroger Must Face Ground Coffee-Quantity Deception Allegations

Kroger Co. failed to shake a proposed class suit alleging it misleads consumers into thinking ground coffee canisters will make more cups than they really do, according to a California federal court ruling entered Monday.

Amy Lorentzen alleges if the back-panel brewing instructions are followed, the canister produces significantly less coffee than the quantity advertised on the front.

Lorentzen bought Kroger Medium Roast Supreme Blend Ground Coffee, in a 29 oz. canister. The front label of the canister prominently states: “Makes about 225 cups,”—225 servings, she alleges.
