Jackson Hewitt, Tax Preparers Seek $380,000 Wage Suit Deal Nod

Jackson Hewitt Inc. and tax preparers who say it unlawfully deducted promotional customer gift card values from their earned commissions asked a federal judge in New Jersey for permission to move forward with a $380,000 settlement.

The deal follows more than six years of litigation, including a failed class certification bid. The settlement provides a $260,000 fund for employees of Jackson Hewitt subsidiary Tax Services of America Inc. and a $120,000 fund for employees of the company’s franchisees, the parties told the US District Court for the District of New Jersey.
