Illinois State Senator Testifies FBI Wanted Him to Wear Wire (1)

An Illinois state senator on trial for bribery testified Thursday that he was at one point considering cooperating with the government but was uncomfortable with agents’ request that he wear a wire to record his colleagues and a local hospital CEO.

“Why were you not willing to wear a wire?” attorney Victor Henderson of Henderson Parks, who represents Sen. Emil Jones III (D), asked his client on the stand.

Jones sighed and took a long pause.

“Because if...” he said, then paused again. “I don’t know how to answer that question.”
