Fisher-Price Gets Court Nod for $19 Million Infant Sleeper Deal

A federal judge granted preliminary approval for a $19 million settlement resolving litigation over infant deaths linked to Rock ‘n Play Sleepers made by Mattel Inc. unit Fisher-Price Inc.

“This case is not like the token payment cases in which consumers are offered nothing of real value in exchange for the extinguishment of their claims,” Judge Geoffrey W. Crawford of the US District Court for the Western District of New York said Monday. “If a consumer chooses to submit a claim, she is likely to receive a substantial percentage of the original purchase price of the RNPS.”
