DOJ Moves to Join Suits Targeting California Emission Standards

The Justice Department asked to join the fray in a recent lawsuit launched by trucking manufacturers alleging California is attempting to enforce its unlawful emissions standards.

The US Department of Justice moved on Friday to intervene in the suit filed Monday by Volvo Group North America LLC and other companies. The DOJ alleges California is in “defiance of federal law” by continuing to enforce certain rules under its Clean Truck Partnership.

Volvo and other trucking manufacturers, including Daimler Truck North America LLC and International Motors LLC, said the California Air Resources Board has threatened “civil sanctions and un-favorable regulatory treatment” ...
