CNN Site Visitor Advances Suit Over Collection of IP Addresses

Cable News Network Inc. must face a proposed class action alleging it collected the IP addresses of visitors to its website without their consent in violation of the California Invasion of Privacy Act.

Lead plaintiff Carol Lesh had statutory standing to sue in federal court and sufficiently pleaded the elements of her claims under the CIPA, Judge Victor Marrero of the US District Court for the Southern District of New York said Thursday.
