The San Francisco Giants don’t need to pay baseball venue employees immediately after a season ends, a California appeals court ruled, saying a pause in programming at the venue doesn’t constitute a layoff or discharge.
The Major League Baseball team and George Melendez, a stadium security guard, grappled in oral arguments over whether a 2020 state law that limited when baseball employees should be given next-day discharge pay should apply to Melendez’s case, which started before the law’s enactment.
