SF Giants Owners Get Sympathetic Hearing in Seasonal Worker Case (Correct)

A panel of California appellate justices appeared sympathetic Wednesday to the San Francisco Giants’ argument that baseball venue employees who say they’re laid off seasonally are excepted from a right to immediate pay.

The Major League Baseball team leaned on a 2020 state law that said people employed by a “professional baseball venue” are entitled to wages earned “by the next regular payday.” The law also said that the end of a baseball season doesn’t “by itself” constitute a discharge or layoff, which would trigger an immediate pay requirement.
