California ‘Sensitive Places’ Gun Law Fought Before Newsom Signs

A California gun control bill faced a legal challenge from several gun advocacy groups and gun-owning residents the same day it was passed by the California Senate.

The legislation, Senate Bill 2, designates a list of “sensitive places” where it would be unlawful to possess a firearm, even for individuals with a concealed carry permit. Gov. Gavin Newson (D) has previously stated his intent to sign the bill, and released a statement on Sept. 11 supporting its passage in the state assembly.
