Astro AI Sheds Mini-Fridge Fire Hazard Proposed Class Lawsuit

December 2, 2025, 10:11 PM UTC

A consumer alleging Astro AI Inc. sold a mini-fridge with a fire hazard voluntarily dismissed his proposed class action Tuesday.

The US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois dismissed the suit without prejudice.

  • Lead plaintiff David Freifeld had alleged the four-liter mini-fridges contained a short-circuit in the electrical switch
  • He sought to represent a nationwide class
  • Approximately 249,000 units were sold between June 2019 and June 2020 and were later recalled because of dozens of overheating incidents and two fires

Freifeld was represented by Poulin Willey Anastopoulo.

The case is Freifeld v. Astro AI Inc., N.D. Ill., No. 1:25-cv-07125, 12/2/25
