AMC Beats Video Privacy Suit Because It’s a Movie Theater Chain

AMC Entertainment Holdings, the movie theater operator, doesn’t qualify as a “video tape service provider” under the Video Privacy Protection Act, a US court ruled Tuesday, joining a half-dozen others in making the same determination.

“Six district courts and the Ninth Circuit” have reached the same conclusion that showing movies isn’t the same as delivering them. Judge Daniel D. Crabtree of the US District Court for the District of Kansas said he agrees with the “unanimous chorus,” and dismissed a lawsuit alleging AMC wrongly told Facebook what movies they purchased tickets for.
