Abortion Rights Measure Will Be on NY Ballot in November (1)

A bid by New York Republicans to remove an abortion rights measure from the November ballot was rejected by the state’s highest court on Thursday.

Republican Assemblymember Marjorie Byrnes wanted the high court to overturn a state appellate court decision that allowed the measure, known as the Equal Rights Amendment, to be included on the ballot. The measure would prohibit discrimination based on gender identity, pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes, and reproductive health.

Byrnes’ attorneys said they will again ask the court to take up the case through a motion for leave to appeal.
