Zillow Loses Bid for Board Review of Last IBM Patent in Lawsuit

Zillow Inc. lost its administrative challenge to an IBM Corp. patent related to website design.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board’s decision not to institute review of IBM’s U.S. Patent No. 7,543,234 came a day after a federal judge in Washington invalidated other patents in an infringement suit IBM brought over Zillow’s website and mobile apps.

The board said in a Thursday decision Zillow hadn’t shown the challenged patent claims, related to customizable portal pages, are likely invalid.
