Zillow Gets IBM’s Second Infringement Case Trimmed to One Patent

Zillow Group Inc. got three patents trimmed from an IBM Corp. lawsuit alleging Zillow’s website and mobile apps use its technology for improving searches without permission, after a ruling from a federal judge.

Judge Thomas S. Zilly’s Wednesday ruling for the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington left only one patent at issue, pending the result of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board’s review of its validity.

That patent, titled “Stacking portlets in portal pages,” also is part of a suit filed in March 2021 against Rakuten Group Inc. that’s pending in Delaware. Bloomberg Law estimates ...
