The Federal Circuit said an administrative tribunal was justified in axing a wireless electricity transfer patent that’s the subject of a Delaware infringement lawsuit.
The court affirmed a ruling by the Patent Trial and Appeal Board that large parts of a 70-claim patent invented by a trio of Massachusetts Institute of Technology physicists were obvious in light of previous inventions. The ruling cements a win for InductEV Inc., a manufacturer of wireless charging systems for vehicles and defendant in the suit brought by patent owner WiTricity Corp., which was founded by one of the inventors.
