Western Digital Owes $553 Million After Patent Award Interest

Hard-drive manufacturer Western Digital Corp. must pay patent owner Spex Technologies Inc. $237 million worth of interest months after a federal jury in Southern California found it infringed Spex’s patent, according to a court’s judgment.

The interest owed by Western Digital for infringement of Spex’s US Patent No. 6,088,802 is on top of the $315.7 million the jury awarded in October, bringing the total awarded to $552.7 million, according to calculations made by Judge James V.
