Donald Trump reached a settlement with Eddy Grant two months after a New York federal court ruled he infringed Grant’s 1983 hit “Electric Avenue” in a 2020 social media post.
Trump’s use of the song with a “Trump Train” video in a post on X, formerly Twitter, played no role in his political messaging and therefore wasn’t fair use, the US District Court for the Southern District of New York said Sept 13. With only damages left to determine in the case, the parties reached an agreement according to a Wednesday docket entry.
