TikTok Pte. Ltd. and its parent ByteDance Ltd. asked a federal judge to pause a Silicon Valley startup’s lawsuit accusing it of infringement while an administrative tribunal reviews petitions challenging the patents’ validity.
The companies filed seven petitions challenging Cellspin Soft Inc.'s technology at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board in April, according to a motion to stay filed Wednesday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Halting the case while the tribunal considers the patents’ validity will clarify the scope of the disputed claims and curb litigation costs, they argued.
