An East Texas federal judge paused a patent suit against TikTok’s owner ByteDance Ltd. as the company challenges the validity of the underlying patents.
Cellspin Soft Inc. sued ByteDance in October 2023 for allegedly infringing seven patents, which the social media giant then filed challenges against at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board. The PTAB instituted trials for all seven patents in September and October of 2024, and ByteDance asked the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas to stay the case and let the tribunal proceedings go forward first.
