Tesla Wins Transfer of Suit Over Self-Driving Tech to California

Tesla Inc. convinced a Texas judge to transfer a lawsuit accusing the company of infringing self-driving vehicle patents to Northern California after its first attempt failed.

The addition of nine new witnesses based in California tips the scales in Tesla’s favor, Judge Rodney Gilstrap ruled in an opinion unsealed Dec. 19 in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.

Gilstrap denied Tesla’s original motion to transfer Granite Vehicle Ventures LLC’s lawsuit to California in August, declining to consider the nine witnesses in his analysis because Tesla didn’t identify them until its subsequent reply brief.
