Tesla Denied Transfer in Texas Suit Over Self-Driving Patents

Tesla Inc. must defend against accusations it ripped off a trio of self-driving patents in East Texas after a federal judge denied its motion to move the case to Northern California.

Judge Rodney Gilstrap of the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas said the eight factors for determining whether to transfer a case were a wash, favoring neither Tesla nor patent owner Granite Vehicle Ventures LLC according to an order made public Monday but posted under seal a week earlier.

“To use a baseball analogy: tie goes to the runner—here, Plaintiff,” Gilstrap concluded.
