Teen Social Media Law in Georgia Restricts Youth Under 16 Online

Georgia teens under 16 will need a parent or guardian’s permission to use social media under a law signed Tuesday by Gov. Brian Kemp (R).

The law (S.B. 351), which takes effect July 1, 2025, will require platforms such as TikTok to make “commercially reasonable efforts” to verify the ages of their users. Sites can choose how to obtain parental consent for users under 16, such as through a signed form or video call.
