StoneX Wins Dismissal of OANDA’s Patent Infringement Lawsuit

Financial services company StoneX Group Inc. escaped claims it violated three patents owned by competitor OANDA Corp. with a federal Illinois judge’s dismissal of the case.

Online currency-exchange platform OANDA failed to convince Judge John J. Tharp Jr. that its patented technology was “sufficiently inventive” to survive StoneX’s motion to dismiss. Tharp granted the motion on Wednesday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. His order denied OANDA leave to amend its complaint.
