SIPCO Beats Emerson Patent Challenge After Federal Circuit Remand

SIPCO LLC salvaged parts of a patent challenged by Emerson Electric Co., after the Federal Circuit found a U.S. Patent and Trademark Office tribunal misinterpreted a term in the patent.

The Patent Trial and Appeal Board in 2018 found Emerson had shown numerous claims in the patent invalid. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit threw out much of the decision, finding the PTAB wrongly interpreted a term.

SIPCO’s U.S. Patent No. 7,697,492 covers a system for monitoring remote devices using radio-frequency transmissions.
