SIPCO Gets Second Chance to Save Invalidated Radio Patent

SIPCO LLC will get a second chance to save its remote radio transmission monitoring patent at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board, after the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit held Dec. 20 that the board construed it incorrectly.

The board wrongly invalidated claims of the patent after misconstruing the claim term “scalable address,” related to the size of a receiver address within a data packet.

SIPCO’s U.S. Patent No. 7,697,492 covers a system for “monitoring, controlling, and reporting on remote devices using radio-frequency transmissions.”
