Samsung Wipes Out Patents Targeting Earbud Chargers on Appeal

Samsung Electronics Co. maintained its win against a Houston company that alleged the South Korean conglomerate infringed patent technology through sales of its Galaxy earbud chargers.

The US Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit rejected GUI Global Products Ltd.'s appeal of an administrative decision invalidating four of its patents relating to magnetic switches used to activate or deactivate various portable electronic devices. Samsung previously convinced the Patent Trial and Appeal Board that the patents were obvious based on patent application publications filed earlier in the U.S. and South Korea.
