Samsung Owes Maxell $112 Million After Texas Patent Trial (1)

Samsung Electronics Co. owes Maxell Ltd. $111.7 million for infringing patents with smart-home and phone technology, including the SmartThings Station, a jury found.

Samsung willfully infringed US Patent Nos. 8,982,086, 10,176,848 and 11,017,815, a Texarkana jury determined Wednesday in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. The patents concern methods for systems for video, photo, reproduction and unlocking functions.

Maxell sued Samsung in September 2023, alleging the electronics giant infringed multiple patents by creating and selling products, including the SmartThings Station, its Gallery app, smartphone models, and kitchen appliances.
