Samsung Gets Maxell $112 Million Patent Win Thrown Out in Texas

Samsung Electronics Co. convinced a Texas federal judge to throw out Maxell Ltd.’s $111.7 million jury verdict win over smart-home and mobile phone technology.

Samsung didn’t infringe US Patent Nos. 8,982,086, 10,176,848 and 11,017,815, Judge Robert W. Schroeder III ruled Sept. 18, granting in-part the electronic giant’s motion for judgment as a matter of law in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Texas. Schroeder invalidated the asserted claims of the ’086 and ’815 patents.

Maxell sued Samsung in September 2023, alleging the electronics giant infringed multiple patents with its products, including the SmartThings Station.
