Samsara Inc. told a California federal judge its online statements about Motive Technologies Inc. aren’t defamation and are protected by litigation privilege because it filed a lawsuit accusing the competitor of infringing AI-based fleet tracking system patents.
Motive filed a lawsuit in February out of “retaliation” for Samsara asserting patent infringement in Delaware federal court a month earlier, according to a motion to dismiss filed Monday in the US District Court for the Northern District of California. Samsara is seeking dismissal of Motive’s allegations, including defamation, patent infringement and fraud claims.
