A federal judge overseeing a patent owner’s helmet-safety infringement suit against Riddell Inc. told the parties to rework their proposed final judgment to make clear all claims are resolved, and separately ordered Riddell to say whether it still seeks sanctions over alleged backdated evidence.
William A. Jacob sued Riddell in September 2024 alleging its Speedflex and Axiom helmet lines infringe US Patent No. 11,464,271, which names his son, William J. Jacob, as its inventor. Riddell denied infringement and argued the patent is invalid and isn’t enforceable because Jacob misled the US Patent and Trademark Office.
